Keratinocytes are the most abundant cells in the skin, comprising over 90% of the dermal layer. As they mature they rise to form the epidermis, which is the body's principle barrier between itself and the environment. Uses of Keratinocytes include studies on wound healing, skin biology and inflammation.
Astarte Biologics offers isolated keratinocytes as primary cells isolated directly from donor tissue and briefly expanded in culture then cryopreserved. We also offer secondary or passaged cells that have been harvested from in vitro cell culture and then recultured. Secondary cells have the passage number indicated on the cryovial.
Cells are tested for the presence of blood borne pathogens, HIV-1, HIV-2, Hepatitis A, B,and C, HTLV-I/II, HPV, Herpes type 6,7,8, and found to be negative. Nevertheless all human cells should be still be handled as if they contain potentially infectious agents following biosafety level 2 (BL-2) procedures. In addition cells have been found to be mycoplasma negative.
